My dream

A few years ago I was sat in a call centre where I worked, reflecting on my life. Every work day morning I drove forty minutes to a large office building where I swiped my security card on a scanner that told a computer I was in the building. I then climbed the stairs to a room where two hundred people manned the phone lines. I felt like a small cog in a gigantic, impersonal machine. After answering about two hundred calls, six o’clock came. I swiped my card on the exit scanner then drove back home to become a couch potato in front of the TV.

Why did I have this lifestyle for several years? Each month a small amount of money was deposited in my bank account. With this I paid my rent, bought food, and had a social life.
