According to a Washington Post article dated February 7th, the world of .coms, .nets, and .orgs may soon come to a screeching halt, as the Internet once again rushes into new and wide-open territory by expanding and personalizing domain suffixes.

The Internet's Domain Name System Could Soon Become Subject Specific and Competitive

Those who now yawn at the standard domain name system, may have to catch their breath next week when hundreds of entrepreneurs, investors, and consultants swarm to the first ever .nxt conference, which will take place in San Francisco over a three-day period.

The conference, which has been arranged by the Internet Corporation for for Assigned Names and Numbers and known as ICANN will be holding seminars on application guidlines at the conference. Speakers will explain how the new naming system will work. For instance, instead of a web address ending in .com --it could soon end in .love or .teen.
